I had to design a logo for The Fabric.
I totally forgot I had to do this project. It took a few days and it turned out okay. I mean, it wasn’t horrible.
The Palette
I started with color and font choices. Had one idea of woven threads. It’s fabric, right?
1st Pass
I don’t know why I was fixated on the woven potholder. I thought it was visually interesting and would make a good icon, even thought I knew it wouldn’t work small for mobile.
2nd Pass
They like this sort of woven symbol thing. I put a dot in, like a marble that would travel on an endless track. Some small idea of NETWORK. I didn’t mind the one with the “F” woven into it, but I was not a fan of this logo. Too complicated.
3rd Pass
More variations on the woven theme. It just wasn’t working. The only good idea I had was the one that used the “C” as a part of the woven part.
4th Pass
We decided to go with the red and blue combo, and went in a different direction. All of these new ideas are terrible.
5th Pass
Finally had an idea that had to do with a piece of fabric as a ribbon. Made everything all shiny with highlights. They insisted on adding that little NETWORK icon to the logo. Now we were getting somewhere.
Final Logo
Made the logo wider, so it was more square. Finessed the NETWORK icon on the bottom. Curved everything out, so it had more dimension.
Style Guide
I liked the way the logo looked in two colors for print. Included the NETWORK icon that was used on the business cards. All in all, this logo grew on me. Not terrible. Here is the Fabric Logo at work.
