I had to make a logo for a Ringtone App.
The fellas I was working with were fixated on some kind of mascot. I tend to shy away from mascots, as they are difficult to get right.
1st Pass
I started with a bunch of fonts and two old logos. I knew I needed to separate the “A” from the Ring and Ling.
2nd Pass
I was fixated on the idea of the concentric circles. I think the radial elements worked to imply ringing. The “A” character looked like a Pac-Man ghost.
3rd Pass
I think I always make at least one monogram logo. I liked the “R”, but no one else did. They liked the Smiley face.
Final Logo
I finally sat down and committed to an illustration. It needed to be crazy happy. They liked it. It made them giggle.
I’m a writer living in Los Angeles, making emojis of faces I find on Instagram. When I get a moment, I paint portraits on canvases I build from reclaimed wood.
